Weather Station-Based Sprinkler System Controllers...

Space-Age Technology
Changes the Lawn & Garden Sprinkler World... Forever!

The latest development in sprinkler system controllers – the new 'smart' controllers – use weather-station based data to more accurately adjust the sprinkler controller functions than can typically be done by ‘hand.’
The most practical residential weather-based sprinkler system controllers use meteorological data gathered from weather stations which is then sent to individual residential sprinkler system controllers using wireless communication. The controller then adjusts the sprinkler system run times according to the current actual weather conditions. Run-off from rainfall and over-watering have caused this dramatic erosion...wasting plenty of water and ruining the landscape... As we mentioned on our Home page, watering yards, sports fields and commercial properties uses 58% of urban (non-farm) water used in North America... and they're all typically overwatered by 30%, to as much as 300%.
To make matters even worse, municipal water rates have been rising by meteoric amounts across North America... in many places by hundreds and hundred of percents.
But the real cost of overwatering – property destruction, water run-off and liabilities – is actually 5-to-10 times more costly than water bills.

What Can You Do to Overcome this Potential Exposure?

Well... an automatic sprinkler system can certainly help ensure your precious landscape – in which you've invested so much over the years – gets just the right amount of water, at just the right time – to thrive and remain healthy, vibrant green, and colorful – without wasting one drop of that precious water.
But with that 'automatic' lawn & garden sprinkler system comes a certain level of commitment from you, as the homeowner or property manager.Poorly adjusted sprinklers watering sidwalk waste water. What Does All This Mean?

All sprinkler systems need a controller (the 'clock' or timer that controls the watering cycles on a lawn and garden sprinkler system), to control just when they come on, and how long they'll run when they do.  Essentially the sprinkler controller is the brains behind the hydraulic machine you'll have buried in the ground around your property.
And typical sprinkler systems simply can't self-adjust to ever-changing weather conditions.
So historically, when weather conditions changed, owners would have to manually re-program the sprinkler system controller (dare we now call them, “old-fashioned?”) with new watering schedules, and adjust the run-times... without which they'd generally overwater their property, resulting in higher than necessary water bills and potentially expensive property damage.
Imagine if you could initially set your sprinkler system controller, and from then on, it would essentially adjust itself, based on weather data information supplied to it by reliable government and corporate weather stations...
Evapotranspiration (ET) - a Term You Should Get to Know...
In the last few years, researchers have been working on a type of 'smart' sprinkler system controller that could use weather-based data relating to the relative rate of evapotranspiration (ET) to more automatically control the controllers function. Evapotranspiration is a term used generally to describe the sum of evaporation and plant transpiration (movement) from the earth's land surface to the atmosphere, and specifically to use that relative ET data to adjust sprinkler controllers.
(Read more about evapotranspiration here).
While there are a couple of approaches to ET, or weather-based sprinkler system controllers in residential settings, the most economic, and as such, the most universally practical uses meteorological data gathered from local weather stations to calculate the reference ET.  The calculated ET is then sent to individual residential sprinkler controllers using wireless communication. The ET controller then adjusts the sprinkler system run times – or the number of cycles – according to the variable and changing weather throughout the growing season.

Rainfall Irrigation Introduces the Toro Intelli-Sense Controller...
Toro’s revolutionary Intelli-Sense Controller uses several technological advances to increase sprinkler convenience and save you water & money.
First – Using WeatherTRAK® enabled scheduling software, your Toro Intelli-Sense Controller creates a scientifically calculated zone-specific baseline sprinkler schedule.
Next – Based on a series of self-prompting questions you and your technician will answer during the installation process, WeatherTRAK automatically calculates the ideal sprinkler schedule for your property.  Variables include sprinkler types, precipitation rate, efficiency rate, soil type(s), plant type(s), root depth, New Toro Intelli-Sense, weather station data-based lawn and garden sprinkler irrigation watering system smart controller from Rainfall Irrigation, Carver, Cohasset, Falmouth Massacusettsmicro climate, and the relative slopes on your property.
Answering these questions helps to develop run and cycle time benchmark without any guesswork.  All you’ll need to do is establish your sprinkler system start times and watering days – your Intelli-Sense Controller will do the rest for you.
Finally – Your schedule is then updated each day using weather station-based sprinkler data. To ensure you receive accurate weather data for your location from calibrated weather stations, this data is generated from government-owned weather stations throughout the U.S. and delivered to your Intelli-Sense Controller.
Based on those daily updates, your sprinkler schedule is adjusted automatically to ensure precise water amounts are delivered – every time.
And if your Intelli-Sense Controller system receives weather data that doesn’t make sense, it simply won’t use it.  Download an Intelli-Sense Controller brochure
No need to buy costly weather stations, or worry about the maintenance, calibration, and upkeep of delicate sensors.
The result – you'll water your property based on science – not guesswork – every day.
